For the Croustade Shells:

  • 12 slices white sandwich bread (crusts removed)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or gruyère)
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Garnishes:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Paprika or chili flakes
  • Tiny bits of cooked bacon or caramelized onion

Prepare the Croustade Shells:
