Sri Lankan Kottu Recipe – Sri Lanka Special

Sri Lankan Kottu is a popular and flavorful street food made by stir-frying chopped flatbread with vegetables, eggs, and meat, all tossed together with bold spices and aromatic sauces. Originating from Sri Lanka, this dish is known for its unique preparation style where cooked flatbread (usually godamba roti) is finely chopped and mixed on a hot griddle with ingredients like chicken, beef, or vegetables. The rhythmic chopping sound of metal blades hitting the griddle is a signature part of Kottu preparation, often heard in busy street food stalls at night. The result is a delicious, slightly crispy, and spicy dish packed with layers of flavor and texture.
What makes Sri Lankan Kottu truly special is its combination of spices and its satisfying, hearty nature. The dish typically includes curry leaves, onions, green chilies, eggs, and a mix of curry spices that give it a rich and slightly smoky taste. Each bite delivers a balance of soft and crispy textures, along with a burst of spicy and savory flavors. Kottu is often served hot with extra curry sauce on the side, making it even more indulgent. Whether enjoyed as a late-night snack or a full meal, Sri Lankan Kottu is a must-try dish that perfectly represents the vibrant and bold flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine.
