Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry (thawed)
Jam Filling:
- 1/2 cup fruit jam or preserves (e.g., raspberry, apricot, or strawberry)
Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Optional:
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Extra jam for brushing
How to make Jam Turnover:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare Pastry:Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. If it’s already in a square or rectangular shape, you can cut it into even squares or rectangles (about 4-5 inches each side).
Add Jam:Place a small spoonful of jam in the center of each pastry square. Be careful not to overfill, as this can cause leakage.
Fold and Seal:Fold each pastry square diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges together with your fingers or a fork to seal them completely.
Apply Egg Wash:Beat the egg with water to make the egg wash. Brush it over the tops of the turnovers to give them a golden, shiny finish.
Bake:Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
Cool and Serve:Allow the turnovers to cool slightly before serving. If desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Recipe Notes:
Puff Pastry: Make sure the puff pastry is properly thawed before use. If it’s too cold, it might crack during handling.
Jam: You can use any type of fruit jam you like. Ensure the jam is not too runny to prevent it from leaking out during baking.
Sealing Edges: Properly sealing the edges is crucial to keep the filling contained. Using a fork to crimp the edges helps to seal them well.
Egg Wash: The egg wash gives the turnovers a beautiful golden color. You can skip this if you prefer a less glossy finish.
Cooling: Allow the turnovers to cool slightly before eating, as the jam filling can be very hot right out of the oven.
