Beaver Tails Recipe – Canada Special

Beaver Tails are a famous Canadian pastry known for their distinctive shape and deliciously sweet toppings. Despite the name, this treat contains no beaver meat; instead, it is a fried dough pastry shaped to resemble a beaver’s tail. The dough is stretched into an oval form and deep-fried until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside while remaining soft and fluffy inside. Once cooked, the pastry is typically topped with a variety of sweet ingredients such as cinnamon sugar, chocolate spread, fruit, whipped cream, or caramel sauce. This combination creates a warm, indulgent dessert that is both comforting and satisfying.

What makes Beaver Tails particularly special is their street-food charm and customizable toppings. They are often enjoyed fresh from food stalls and winter festivals across Canada, where the hot pastry pairs perfectly with cold weather. The crispy edges and soft interior provide a wonderful texture contrast, while the sweet toppings add rich flavor. Whether topped with simple cinnamon sugar or loaded with chocolate and fruit, Beaver Tails are a beloved treat that captures the fun and creativity of Canadian dessert culture.
