For the Pasta:

  • 12 oz (340 g) fettuccine pasta
  • Salt (for boiling water)

For the Alfredo Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

How to make Fettuccine Alfredo :

1

Cook the Pasta:Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccine and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.

2

Make the Alfredo Sauce:In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. If using garlic, add it and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

3

Pour in the heavy cream and simmer for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.

4

Add Cheese:Reduce the heat to low and gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

5

Combine:Add the cooked fettuccine to the skillet, tossing to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

6

Serve:Divide the pasta among plates or bowls. Garnish with chopped parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.

Recipe Notes:

Cheese Choice: Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor and smooth, creamy texture. Avoid pre-grated for a less gritty finish.

Sauce Consistency: If sauce becomes too thick, add reserved pasta water to thin it while still maintaining creaminess.

Protein Add-Ins: For a heartier meal, stir in cooked chicken, shrimp, or even sautéed mushrooms.

Make-Ahead & Storage: Best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated gently—add a bit more cream or pasta water to restore the sauce.

Flavor Variations: Blend in garlic for aroma or a pinch of nutmeg for subtle warmth; garnish with chopped parsley or extra Parmesan to finish.
