Philly Cheese Steak Hot Dog Ingredients:
- 4 beef hot dogs
- 4 hot dog buns
- For the Philly Cheese Steak Toppings:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced
- 1/2 pound thinly sliced beef steak (such as sirloin or ribeye)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese or American cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Prepare the Toppings:
Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the Steak: In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed. Add the thinly sliced beef steak and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is cooked through and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Return the onions and peppers to the skillet and stir to combine.
Prepare the Hot Dogs:
Cook the Hot Dogs: Grill, pan-fry, or steam the hot dogs according to your preference until heated through and slightly crispy on the outside.
Assemble the Hot Dogs:
Add Cheese: Place the cooked hot dogs in the buns. Spoon the Philly cheese steak mixture over each hot dog.
Melt the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded provolone or American cheese and mozzarella cheese over the top of the steak mixture. If desired, you can place the hot dogs under a broiler for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
Serve:
Garnish: Serve immediately, optionally garnished with additional sautéed onions, peppers, or a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired.
Recipe Notes :
Cheese: Feel free to mix and match different cheeses for a unique flavor profile. Provolone, American, and mozzarella work well together, but you can experiment with others.
Beef: If thinly sliced beef is not available, you can use pre-cooked steak strips or even ground beef as an alternative.
Toppings: Customize with additional toppings like sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or hot sauce to suit your taste.
