Pumpkin Dinner Rolls Ingredients :
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
How to make Pumpkin Dinner Rolls:
Activate Yeast:In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes bubbly.
Make Dough:In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, melted butter, egg, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Knead Dough:Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
First Rise:Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
Shape Rolls:Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place in a greased baking dish.
Second Rise:Cover the rolls and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, until puffed up.
Bake Rolls:Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 18-22 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Finish:Brush the rolls with melted butter and let them cool slightly before serving.
Recipe Notes :
Flour:You may need a little more or less flour depending on the humidity. Add flour until the dough is soft but not sticky.
Pumpkin:Use plain canned pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.
Make Ahead:You can refrigerate the dough overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping and baking.
Freezing:These rolls freeze well. Just wrap them up and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
