Americano Recipe – American Special

The Americano is a classic coffee drink that blends the rich intensity of espresso with hot water, creating a smooth, bold beverage that’s less intense than a straight shot of espresso but still full of character. Originating in Italy and named after American soldiers during World War II who diluted their espresso to mimic drip coffee, the Americano is now a beloved café staple around the world. It’s easy to make and a perfect way to enjoy a flavorful cup of coffee without the heaviness.

Americano Ingredients:
- 1–2 shots (30–60 ml) of espresso
- 90–120 ml hot water (adjust based on strength preference)
Optional:
- Sugar or sweetener (to taste)
- Milk or cream (optional, though traditionally served black)
Brew the Espresso:
Use an espresso machine, stovetop Moka pot, or espresso pod machine to brew 1–2 shots of espresso.
Heat the Water:
Boil water and let it cool slightly (to around 160–170°F / 70–75°C) to match espresso temperature.
Combine:
Pour the hot water into a mug first, then slowly pour the espresso over the water. This helps preserve the crema. (Alternatively, pour espresso first for a slightly different flavor balance.)
Serve:
Stir gently and enjoy as is, or add sugar or milk if desired.
Recipe Notes :
Strength Preference : Use a 1:2 or 1:3 espresso-to-water ratio depending on how strong you like your coffee.
Crema Tip : Pouring espresso over hot water preserves more crema for a smoother mouthfeel.
Iced Version : For an Iced Americano, simply pour espresso over ice and top with cold water.
Beans Matter : Use freshly ground, high-quality coffee beans for the best flavor.
Customization : Feel free to experiment with flavored syrups or a splash of cream for a twist.
