Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 1 cup diced red or green pepper
  • 1 can (8 oz) water chestnuts, drained and minced

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons sweet chili sauce (Trader Joe’s!)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger

To serve :

  • 1/4 cup crushed peanuts
  • Lettuce or your favorite Asian salad

How To Make Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps :

1

Whisk together the sauce ingredients until thoroughly combined. If using a firmer peanut butter, microwave the mixture for 30-60 seconds to melt it and ensure everything is well-mixed.

2

Heat 2 tablespoons of peanut oil in a frying pan. Once hot, add the ground chicken.

3

Cook until some pieces begin to brown. Add the minced onion and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.

4

Stir in the diced peppers and minced water chestnuts, and cook for approximately 5 minutes, or until the peppers start to soften.

5

Add the sauce to the pan and simmer over low heat until the chicken and vegetables are evenly coated and everything is heated through. Serve wrapped in lettuce leaves, on top of your favorite Asian salad, or alongside noodles or rice!

Recipe Note :

Notes on ingredients:

Ground Chicken: Finely diced chicken breasts make an excellent alternative to ground chicken.

Peanut Oil: If you don’t have peanut oil or have a peanut allergy, you can use olive oil or avocado oil instead.

Soy Sauce: For those with a soy allergy, coconut aminos can be used as a substitute for soy sauce. To keep the recipe gluten-free, choose a gluten-free soy sauce.

Hoisin Sauce: Choose a gluten-free hoisin sauce to ensure the recipe remains gluten-free.

Peanut Butter: “If you have a peanut allergy, any nut or seed butter can be used as a substitute for peanut butter. However, peanut butter tends to yield the best results.

Store : For storage, keep any leftover lettuce wrap filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Remember to store the leftover lettuce separately to prevent it from becoming soggy.”
