Americano Recipe – American Special

An Americano coffee recipe is a classic espresso-based drink that combines a rich shot of espresso with hot water, resulting in a smooth, robust coffee. This method preserves the crema, the golden frothy layer atop espresso, offering a full-bodied flavor without the intensity of straight espresso. Whether you prefer a milder coffee or a base for milk-based drinks, the Americano provides a versatile and satisfying option.

Americano Ingredients:
- 1–2 shots (30–60 ml) of espresso
- 90–120 ml hot water (adjust based on strength preference)
Optional:
- Sugar or sweetener (to taste)
- Milk or cream (optional, though traditionally served black)
Brew the Espresso:
Use an espresso machine, stovetop Moka pot, or espresso pod machine to brew 1–2 shots of espresso.
Heat the Water:
Boil water and let it cool slightly (to around 160–170°F / 70–75°C) to match espresso temperature.
Combine:
Pour the hot water into a mug first, then slowly pour the espresso over the water. This helps preserve the crema. (Alternatively, pour espresso first for a slightly different flavor balance.)
Serve:
Stir gently and enjoy as is, or add sugar or milk if desired.
Recipe Notes :
Water-to-Espresso Ratio: The typical ratio is 1 part espresso to 2 parts hot water, but this can be adjusted to taste. For a milder coffee, increase the water; for a stronger brew, decrease it.
Coffee Strength: The strength of your Americano can be influenced by the type of espresso beans used and the grind size. Experiment to find your preferred balance.
Serving Suggestions: Serve your Americano black, or add a splash of milk or sweetener to customize it to your liking.
