  • 6 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bottle (330–355 ml) beer (lager or ale works best)
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Beer-Braised Bratwurst Instructions:

1

Heat oil or butter in a pan over medium heat.

2

Sear bratwursts until lightly browned on all sides; remove and set aside.

3

In the same pan, sauté sliced onions until soft and golden.

4

Add garlic and cook for a few seconds.

5

Pour in the beer and stir in mustard and sugar.

6

Bring to a simmer, then return bratwursts to the pan.

7

Cover and cook for 15–20 minutes until sausages are fully cooked and tender.

8

Uncover and simmer a few more minutes to reduce the liquid slightly.

9

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

10

Serve bratwursts with the beer onions, alongside buns, potatoes, or sauerkraut.

Recipe Notes :

Choose light beers for a milder flavor or darker ales for deeper, richer notes.

Add bay leaves or a pinch of caraway seeds to enhance aroma while simmering.

Reduce the sauce slightly at the end for thicker, more flavorful beer onions.

Serve with toasted buns, mustard, potatoes, or sauerkraut for a complete meal.

Sear sausages well at the start to build extra flavor before braising.
