Caprese Skewers with Mozzarella and Basil Ingredients :
- 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz) ball fresh mozzarella (Bocconcini or Ciliegine), drained
- Fresh basil leaves (about 20-25)
- Balsamic glaze or reduction (for drizzling)
- Extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Wooden skewers or toothpicks
How to make Caprese Skewers with Mozzarella and Basil :
Prepare the Ingredients:Wash and dry the tomatoes.
Drain the mozzarella balls if needed.
Wash and pat dry the basil leaves.
Assemble the Skewers:Thread a tomato, a basil leaf, and a mozzarella ball onto each skewer or toothpick. Repeat until you fill each skewer, arranging the ingredients in alternating layers.
Optionally, fold the basil leaves slightly to ensure they fit neatly on the skewer.
Drizzle with Olive Oil and Balsamic Glaze:Arrange the skewers on a serving platter.
Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze or reduction for flavor.
Season:Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Serve:Serve immediately as a light appetizer or snack. You can also refrigerate for up to 30 minutes before serving if you want them to be chilled.
Recipe Notes :
Balsamic Glaze:If you don’t have balsamic glaze, you can reduce balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat until it thickens into a syrupy consistency.
Tomato Variety:If you prefer a different color or size, feel free to swap in heirloom or other small tomatoes.
Fresh Mozzarella:Fresh mozzarella adds creaminess and softness, but if you can’t find it, small chunks of regular mozzarella will work.
Make-Ahead:You can assemble the skewers up to 1-2 hours ahead of time. Just cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
