Currywurst Recipe – German Special

Currywurst is a beloved German street food made with juicy, grilled or fried sausages, typically Bratwurst, served with a flavorful curry-ketchup sauce. This classic Berlin dish combines savory sausage slices with a tangy, spicy sauce that blends ketchup with curry powder, vinegar, sweetness, and optional paprika for extra warmth. It’s quick to prepare—just about 20 minutes—and makes a satisfying main course when paired with crispy fries or a soft bread roll. Perfect for casual meals or when you want a taste of street food at home.

Currywurst Recipe Ingredients:
- 4 German sausages (Bratwurst, or any sausage of your choice)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons curry powder (plus extra for sprinkling)
- 1 tablespoon paprika (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon vinegar (apple cider or white vinegar)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
- Fries or bread rolls (for serving)
Prepare the sauce:
In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, curry powder, paprika (if using), Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and vinegar.
Stir well and bring to a simmer over low heat.
Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Cook the sausages:
Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
Add the sausages and cook, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
You can also grill the sausages if preferred.
Slice the sausages:
Once cooked, remove the sausages from the pan and slice them into bite-sized pieces.
Serve:
Arrange the sliced sausages on a plate and pour the curry sauce over the top.
Sprinkle extra curry powder on top for added flavor, and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Enjoy:
Serve the Currywurst with fries or a bread roll on the side and enjoy your homemade German street food!
Recipe Notes:
Sausage Choice: Bratwurst is classic, but any good-quality pork or beef sausage works; cook until nicely browned and cooked through.
Sauce Thickness: If the sauce is too thick, thin it with a splash of water or broth to reach your preferred consistency.
Heat & Flavor Adjustment: Increase curry powder or add paprika for more depth; adjust sugar or vinegar to balance sweetness and tang.
Serving Suggestions: Best with fries or rolls to soak up the sauce; garnish with fresh parsley or extra curry powder on top.
