Fabulous Tinned Fruit Granitas Ingredients :
- 2 cans (400g each) of tinned fruit in juice or syrup (e.g., peaches, pineapples, or mixed fruit)
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or sugar (optional, depending on the sweetness of the fruit)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon or lime juice (optional, for added freshness)
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
How to make Fabulous Tinned Fruit Granitas :
Prepare the Fruit:Drain the tinned fruit (if using fruit in syrup, drain and reserve the syrup for another use or discard).
Place the fruit into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. If you like a bit of texture, you can pulse it lightly.
Sweeten the Mixture:Taste the fruit puree and add honey or sugar if you desire additional sweetness. Blend again to combine. You can skip this step if the fruit is already sweet enough.
Add Citrus:Add the fresh lemon or lime juice to the fruit mixture. This will add a bit of tang and balance the sweetness.
Freeze the Mixture:Pour the fruit mixture into a shallow baking dish or a large, flat container. Spread it evenly to allow for faster freezing.
Scrape to Form Granita:Place the container in the freezer for about 30 minutes. After that, use a fork to scrape the mixture to break it up into ice crystals. Continue to scrape every 30 minutes for 2-3 hours until the granita has formed a light, fluffy texture.
Serve:Once the granita has completely frozen and fluffed up, scoop it into bowls or glasses. Garnish with fresh mint leaves, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing, icy treat!
Recipe Notes :
Fruit Choice & Drainage: Use tinned fruit in juice or syrup and drain well—if fruit is in syrup, reserve syrup for another use.
Sweetness Adjustment: Taste the puree first; add honey or sugar only if needed so natural sweetness isn’t masked.
Freezing & Scraping: Freeze in a shallow, flat container and scrape with a fork every ~30 minutes for 2-3 hours to form fluffy ice crystals.
Citrus Kick: Adding lemon or lime juice brightens the flavor and balances sweetness.
Make-Ahead & Storage: Granitas can be made ahead and kept in the freezer for up to one week; scoop just before serving for best texture.
