Kompot Recipe- European Special

Kompot is a traditional Eastern European beverage made by simmering fresh or dried fruits with sugar and water. It’s a light, refreshing drink that can be served hot or cold, making it perfect for any season. Often enjoyed in countries like Russia, Poland, Ukraine, and Bulgaria, Kompot is a staple at family meals and celebrations alike. For the Kompot:

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups mixed fruits (fresh or dried – apples, pears, berries, cherries, plums, raisins, apricots)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 small cinnamon stick or a few cloves (optional for added flavor)

Prepare the Fruits:

Wash and peel fruits if needed. Cut larger fruits like apples or pears into chunks.

If using dried fruits, give them a quick rinse to remove any residue.

Cook the Kompot:

In a large pot, combine the water, fruits, and sugar.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 15–20 minutes, or until the fruits are soft and the flavors have infused into the water.

Optional:

Add cinnamon stick or cloves for a warm spice note during simmering.

Finish and Serve:

Once done, remove from heat and let Kompot cool slightly.

Add lemon juice for a bit of brightness (optional).

Serve warm or chill in the refrigerator and serve cold over ice.

Serving:

Pour Kompot into glasses or jars and serve as a refreshing beverage. You can strain the fruit or leave it in for a more rustic presentation. It’s perfect as a light drink after meals or as a wholesome alternative to soda and juice.
