- 1/2 cup cooked chicken, shrimp, or tofu (optional)

- 1 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish:
- cucumber slices, tomato wedges, fried shallots, prawn crackers
Prep Rice:
Use cold, cooked rice for best texture. Break up any clumps with your fingers or a fork.
Stir-Fry Aromatics:
Heat oil in a wok or skillet. Sauté garlic, onion, and chilies until fragrant.
Add Protein (Optional):
Add chicken, shrimp, or tofu and stir-fry for 2 minutes until heated through.
Add Rice and Sauces:
Toss in the rice and stir well to mix. Add kecap manis and soy sauce. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until rice is evenly coated and slightly caramelized.
Fry Egg:
In a separate pan, fry an egg sunny-side up.
Serve:
Plate the rice, top with fried egg, and garnish with cucumber, tomato, and prawn crackers.
Recipe Notes :
Rice Tip : Day-old rice is key—it stays firm and won’t get mushy when stir-fried.
Kecap Manis Substitute : Mix soy sauce with a little brown sugar or molasses if unavailable.
Spice Level : Adjust chili amount or add sambal oelek for extra heat.
Protein Ideas : Shredded chicken, small shrimp, tempeh, or even leftover beef all work well.
Toppings : Don’t skip the fried egg—it adds richness and authenticity!
