Obatzda Recipe – German Special

Obatzda is a traditional Bavarian cheese spread made from a blend of Camembert cheese, butter, and spices. It’s a popular snack or appetizer, especially served with pretzels and beer.

Obatzda Ingredients:

  • Camembert Cheese: 1 (8-ounce or 225 grams), softened
  • Butter: 1/2 cup (115 grams), softened
  • Cream Cheese: 2 tablespoons
  • Onion: 1 small, finely chopped
  • Paprika: 1 tablespoon
  • Caraway Seeds: 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Salt: to taste
  • Black Pepper: to taste
  • Chives or Parsley: for garnish (optional)

How to make Obatzda::

Mix: In a bowl, combine the softened Camembert cheese, butter, and cream cheese. Mash together until smooth.

Add: Stir in the finely chopped onion, paprika, caraway seeds (if using), salt, and black pepper.

Serve: Garnish with chopped chives or parsley, if desired.

Recipe Notes:

Adjust the seasoning to taste; more paprika can add extra flavor and color.

Obatzda can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Let it come to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and spreadability.
