Russian Tea Cakes Recipe – Russian Special

These Russian tea cakes are coated in powdered sugar, giving them a sweet finish and a charming snowball-like look. Originating from my grandmother “Bubba,” who brought this recipe from Lithuania, it has been cherished by my family for generations. I am delighted to share it in the festive spirit of the holiday season!

Russian Tea Cakes Ingredients :

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, or more as needed

How to Make Russian Tea Cakes Recipe :

1

Gather all your ingredients.

2

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

3

In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes.

4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and 6 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Add this mixture to the butter mixture and stir until just combined. Mix in the walnuts until evenly distributed; the dough may be slightly crumbly.

5

Take small scoops of dough and roll them between your hands to form 1-inch balls. Arrange the balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

6

Bake in the preheated oven until the edges of the cookies are just starting to turn golden, about 12 minutes.

7

Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool for 15 minutes.

8

Place the remaining 1/3 cup of powdered sugar in a small bowl. Roll the cooled cookies in the powdered sugar once or twice until coated evenly.
