Steamed Egg Ingredients :
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup water or chicken broth
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp white pepper (optional)
- 1/2 tsp soy sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil (optional, for added depth)
- Chopped green onions or cilantro for garnish (optional)
Prepare the Mixture:
In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until well beaten. Add water or chicken broth, salt, and optional white pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix until thoroughly combined.
Strain the Mixture:
For a smoother texture, strain the egg mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into another bowl.
Prepare the Steaming Setup:
Pour the egg mixture into a heatproof dish or ramekin that fits inside your steamer or a large pot with a lid. Cover the dish with aluminum foil or a lid.
Steam:
Bring water to a boil in a steamer or a large pot with a steaming rack. Place the dish with the egg mixture in the steamer or on the rack. Steam over medium heat for 12-15 minutes, or until the egg is set and no longer jiggles in the center.
Check and Serve:
Carefully remove the dish from the steamer and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped green onions or cilantro if desired. Serve warm.
Recipe Notes :
Texture: Straining the egg mixture helps achieve a smooth, silky texture. For an even creamier result, use chicken broth instead of water.
Steaming Equipment: If you don’t have a steamer, you can use a large pot with a lid and a heatproof dish. Place the dish on a steaming rack or an inverted heatproof plate in the pot.
Flavor Variations: Customize the flavor by adding ingredients like mushrooms, shrimp, or diced vegetables before steaming.
Storage: Steamed egg can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a steamer or microwave before serving.
