For the Agua Fresca:

  • 4 cups watermelon (seedless, cubed)
  • 1 to 1½ cups cold water (adjust based on desired consistency)
  • 1–2 tablespoons lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1–2 tablespoons sugar or honey (optional, depending on sweetness of watermelon)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Lime slices or wedges
  • Mint leaves
  • Small watermelon wedges

Blend the Drink:

1

In a blender, add the cubed watermelon, cold water, lime juice, and sweetener if using.

2

Blend on high until completely smooth.

Strain (Optional):

3

For a smoother texture, pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher to remove pulp. Skip this step if you prefer a thicker drink.

Chill and Serve:

4

Refrigerate the Agua Fresca for at least 30 minutes, or serve immediately over ice.

5

Garnish with lime slices, mint leaves, or small watermelon wedges for a festive touch.

Recipe Notes :

  • Texture Options: For a thicker, slushy feel, skip straining; for a silky smooth drink, pass the blended mix through a fine-mesh sieve.

  • Sweetness Adjustment: Taste your watermelon first—if it’s very sweet, you may not need sugar or honey; adjust the sweetener accordingly.

  • Serving Chilled: For maximum refreshment, serve over plenty of ice or refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

  • Fruit Ripeness: Use fully ripe watermelon—brick-red and sweet—to ensure flavour; underripe fruit can make the drink bland or watery.
