For the Truffles:

  • 200g dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), chopped
  • 100ml heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

For Coating:

  • Cocoa powder
  • Chopped nuts (e.g., hazelnuts, almonds)
  • Melted chocolate (for dipping)
  • Sprinkles or desiccated coconut (optional)

How to make Chocolate Truffle:

1

Melt the Chocolate:In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate and butter. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just starts to simmer, then pour it over the chocolate. Let it sit for a minute before stirring until smooth.

2

Add Flavor:Stir in the vanilla extract, if using. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about 1-2 hours until it’s firm enough to handle.

3

Shape the Truffles:Once the mixture is set, use a small cookie scoop or spoon to portion out the chocolate. Roll each portion into a ball using your hands.

4

Coat the Truffles:Roll the truffles in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or any other coating of your choice. If dipping in melted chocolate, place the truffles on a wire rack to allow excess chocolate to drip off.

5

Chill and Serve:Place the coated truffles in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Recipe Notes :

Chocolate Quality:Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor. You can adjust the cocoa percentage based on your preference for bitterness.

Flavor Variations:Experiment by adding flavors like orange zest, peppermint extract, or espresso powder to the chocolate mixture before chilling.

Storage:Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. They can also be frozen for longer storage.

Coating Ideas:Besides cocoa powder and nuts, consider using crushed freeze-dried fruit, powdered sugar, or edible gold for an elegant touch.

Serving:Truffles make great gifts when packaged in decorative boxes or tins, making them perfect for holidays and special occasions.
