Damber Bread Ingredients :

  • 2 cups self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup milk (or buttermilk)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional)

How to make Damber Bread :

1

Preheat the Oven:Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2

Combine Dry Ingredients:In a large bowl, mix the self-raising flour, salt, and sugar (if using).

3

Add Wet Ingredients:Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk and melted butter (if using). Mix gently until the dough comes together.

4

Knead the Dough:Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until it’s smooth but still soft. Avoid over-kneading.

5

Shape the Bread:Form the dough into a round loaf (about 1 inch thick) and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Use a sharp knife to cut a deep cross on the top of the loaf to help it cook evenly.

6

Bake:Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

7

Cool and Serve:Allow the damper to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with butter or your favorite spreads.
