- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for browning)

- 400g (14 oz) canned tomatoes, crushed
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Soutzoukakia Smyrneika Instructions:
Mix ground meat, grated onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper to form a smooth mixture.
Shape mixture into small oblong meatballs (about 2–3 inches long).
Heat olive oil in a pan and lightly brown meatballs on all sides; remove and set aside.
In the same pan, sauté garlic in olive oil until fragrant.
Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, cumin, cinnamon, red wine, salt, and pepper; stir to combine.
Simmer sauce for 10–15 minutes to develop flavors.
Add browned meatballs to the sauce; cover and simmer gently for 20–25 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.
