Spanish Sangria Ingredients :

  • ¼ cup simple syrup (optional)
  • 1.5 bottles of young, fruity red wine (good quality, avoiding oaky or complex varieties)
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 green apple, cut into chunks (optional)
  • 2 peaches or apricots, cut into chunks (optional)
  • Citrus-flavored soda or carbonated water (optional)
  • 2 ounces brandy, vermouth, or other hard liquor (optional)

How To Make Spanish Sangria

1

Prepare the simple syrup by dissolving 3 tablespoons (38g) of granulated sugar in 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of water over medium heat. Set it aside to cool until ready to use.

2

Wash the lemons and oranges, then cut thick pieces of rind from them. Juice the lemons and oranges.

3

In a large pitcher or pot, combine the wine, orange juice, lemon juice, and brandy (if using). Stir well.

4

Sweeten the sangria to taste with the prepared simple syrup. Add the cinnamon stick, lemon and orange rind pieces, and chunks of green apple and peaches/apricots (if using).

5

Allow the sangria to steep for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to infuse the wine with the flavors of the citrus rind and cinnamon.

6

Serve the sangria over ice. Add soda or carbonated water just before serving if desired.

Recipe Notes

Choose Fruity Red Wine: Select a young, fruity red like Tempranillo or Garnacha—it adds flavor without complexity.

Macerate Fruit: Let the fruit soak in the wine for at least an hour to deepen the aroma and flavor infusion.

Serve Over Ice: Always pour over ice to keep the drink chilled and refreshing.

Optional Fizz: Add sparkling water or soda right before serving for an effervescent lift.

Adjust Sweetness: Sweeten with sugar, honey, or simple syrup to taste—adapt to personal preference.
